Beautiful Background Blog

For those of you interested in animation, Animation Backgrounds is a terrific blog that features background art from Disney features. I remember as a kid I had a Disney art book that had many three page foldouts or backgrounds from different movies and i was always fascinated by them. My favorite was a spread of the background for the Pleasure Island sequence from Pinocchio and an extreme close up of a bar of soap on a wooden step from Snow White. One was an experiment in lots of detail while the other was simple yet very rich.

Watching the characters cavort about on the screen makes it easy to forget all the skill that went into the backgrounds so it's good to see someone highlighting these oft overlooked great works of art.
