Is Heroes A Lost Cause?

heroes-opener_l.jpg

What happened to Heroes? It went from a brilliant show to a sub par drama. Worst of all it's becoming...predictable (save for last nights big reveal which I should have seen coming but didn't).

What's wrong here? Is it just a sophomore slump? Desperate Housewives had a similar problem but has bounced back in its fourth season to be as good as ever. But I'm not sure Heroes can survive that. Especially with the writer's strike and the rumored exit of creator Tim Kring.

Season 2 of Heroes has brought muddled stories, lackluster new characters, and repeated story lines. Why do we need to go into the future AGAIN?

The only decent new character is Elle and I may be biased in thinking that since I love Kristen Bell. (Anyone else desperately miss Veronica Mars?)

So what can be done to fix it? Cull the cast and refocus. Lose the Wonder Twins, lose Copycat Girl, give Sylar back his power or kill him off. Get rid of BOB, he is quite possibly the worst character the show has put on screen. By the way, way to ruin a great premise for an enemy with the Nightmare Man. Matt's Father? Really? He doesn't look scary, he looks like an out of work cabbie.

Most importantly? Give us great stories. That's what we're used to, it's what we want. Heroes was great. It can be again. Just fix it already!

First, congratulations ont he new blog!!
Second, Heroes it's becoming a slow show, we have to wait a little bit to fully explode. But, yes on bye bye Wonder Tiwns, yes on killing Sylar, yes on getting rid of Bob, yes on they ruin the nightamere man storyline. And no, a big no, on losing Copycat Girl. She's one of the best things this season, next to K-Bell.

Its funny reading this entry you (Baron Von Garon) posted as its something I have heard from friends and over the net lately about Heroes, and I have a bit of a different opinion about season 2 so far. Season 2 seems to me to be pretty much on par in most areas with what I saw on season 1.
Though I wouldnt go so far as to say the first season was brilliant, it was very good, but the writing/dialogue was far from stellar at times (something that has continued into 2nd season as well).
Also I like the fact that the nightmare man doesnt look like someone who might fit into a spandex suit, its a nice bit of realism. On the muddled stories/need to regain focus I totally agree with you, but it is still early in the season so I am pretty optomistic about this.
Liked the post though, and am looking forward to reading more.

am i the only one who is satisfied with this season? Everyone has obviously forgotten that season one got the same complaints, the EXACT same complaints, "Speed it up," "Hiro's annoying" yada yada yada, Have some freaking patience, and you can't say that after "No More Time" that the season isn't picking up. So please, just shut up and watch, you keep bitching but you know that your but is still gonna be parked on that couch next monday. Now as long as they don't pull that same bull for that finale I'll be fine ( but going back to future new york was really lame )

I think that Heroes is finally picking up speed and that the rest of the season will be exceptional, especially now that Hiro is back in the present.

And am I the only one that loved future New York and the idea of the pandemic? I guess I just like Post-apocalyptic scenarios.

in response to Ben,

I will totally second you on the post apocalyptic/alternate timelines love. and the pandemic thing is leading me to look up the whole "Legacy virus" plotline that ran through the X-men years back, because I vaguely remember reading about it and it seems very similar.

Yes it is kind of a rip-off of the Legacy Virus although that one didn't suck your powers away.

I was never a Heroes superfan like a lot of my friends, so it's odd to see complaints about things that I felt were there from the first episode. If anything, at least the dialog is better this year than last.

That said, I was not a huge fan of Hiro's Japanese arc so I'm glad that's over, and Peter's adventures in the land of Lucky Charms were pretty painful. The new characters don't really bother me, although I'd reserve most of my bile for Clare's bf West. I hope he has some sort of dark agenda because I'd prefer that obvious plot turn over his lame douchebaggery. Kristen Bell should add a lot to the cast when she's a character and not just a plot point. She could sleep through her lines and still be the best actress the show's got.

I liked the elder Parkman - out of work cabbies can be pretty frightening - but think he's definitely the little bad this year. Hopefully the real Big Bad of the season will reveal him or herself shortly and the season can start in earnest (before shutting down because of the writer's strike).

I'm concerned that the show is gonna end up like "Lost". They had an innovative show for the first season. However, I'm sure they didn't think it would be quite as successful. So, rather than letting it be a great one season show, they had to extend it. So, now, we have a lackluster second season. So long as it is still successful, they'll have to keep adding twists and turns to the plot and reveal new sub-par characters. As a fan of the show, I hope that they know when they have a good thing and know when to end it on a high note (like Seinfeld) - and end it this season.

What's with all the hate for the Twins? I think they'll become very important to the story, considering their powers and the whole Virus thing... >.>
