Sesame Street: Adults Only?

I was really excited to discover this week that the early episodes of Sesame Street are now available on DVD. I grew up watching these early episodes along with The Electric Company and Mr. Rodgers (when they were actually on, not reruns. Yes, I'm that old) and remember them fondly.
But, of course in this day and age of over zealous, nothing can remain as innocent as it once was. The first couple of seasons of these Sesame Street DVDs, entitled Sesame Street: Old School, actually come with a warning that states
“These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.”
Really? You're kidding right? First, Ernie and Bert are accused of being gay and Cookie Monster has to change his diet and refrain from referring to himself in the third person. What's next, Oscar the Grouch in anger management classes? I'd much rather watch a grouchy Oscar than that disgustingly saccharine Elmo creep any day.
I weep for the future.

Intended for grown-ups? What the hell are they talking about? The show was meant as toddler edutainment from the start! Sigh. I feel so bad for kids these days.
That's just ridiculous! Most of us grew up with Sesame Street, in it's full glory, and in my opinion, we have a very tolerant generation (which does have somthing to do with the programming we watched).
What is wrong with people that they want to (pardon the phrase) "white-wash" and homogenize everything?
I'm hoping that they did not edit any of the show, as that would officially infuriate me.
LOL Ernie is totally the bottom.
lol why doesnt cookie monster have diabetes and u know elmo is really this tall deep-voice black man
LOL life is fun and weird
