Wanna Work for MTV? Maybe you should rethink...

File this under the "what the hell?" file.
According to an article over at Gawker.com it looks like Viacom, parent company of MTV and VH1, has taken to treating their employees like trash.
Some highlights of the changes dropped on employees (as they picked up invites to a holiday party no less):
A 50-hour workweek will now be standard, at least at MTV Digital (which means no overtime until after 50 hours, and no overtime at all for higher-level people, like producers and segment producers), and all will go from a day rate to an hourly rate. Healthcare, which was offered to permalancers after a staggering year of service, will now be offered only to employees who have worked 1,280 hours (25 of those 50-hour workweeks) in any one division. And that's the catch: Get transfered, as often happens, from VH1 to MTV or the like, and you start over on that clock.
They go on to explain that Tuition Reimbursement, Dental, and Commuter Pre-Tax Decuctions have all been eliminated.
That's not all...it seems that some are stating that the changes weren't even properly explained or disclosed and some employees have found out about the changes from the internet.
Head over here for details on how the employees plan to fight back. Good luck guys, you'll need it.

All I can say is Yikes! I've always thought Viacom was kinda evil... the only good thing they really own is Comedy Central, and a half stake in LOGO.
