The Internet was a strange place in 1996.
Unlike now. Now it's totally normal.
It was a world of vast empty spaces, extravagant font-gasms, and for some reason, wizards on bicycles. In this amusing article, a fellow by the name of Eric Karjala reviews an intriguing cross section of the Internets from way back when Nickelodeon was just starting to suck.
Speaking of which, I actually remember seeing that Nickelodeon website near the bottom of the article. That's right. I'm that hardcore.

Nice timing -- my friend and I were just talking about how much we loved the old Internet. Damn those pages were ugly, but at the same time expressed a sort of childlike enthusiasm at the new possibilities of the "Information Superhighway".
It brings out the nostalgia in me.
