Host 2 Details!

If you're like me, you were dumbstruck by The Host, the South Korean horror/comedy/family melodrama that lurched ashore last year and rampaged mercilessly through a crowd of American critics. With its long, naturalistic takes, it was one of the most terrifying monster movies I have ever seen. Unlike Jaws or Alien, it exposed its monster full-on, in glaring daylight, from the first attack, and still managed to make me hold my breath through the entire first-act bloodbath. The slapstick scenes were LOLworthy, the political satire had real teeth (although, please, can we ease up on the knee-jerk anti-Americanism, Korea?), and the emotional heart of the film put tears in my eyes.
So how do you top a behemoth like that? How about with a whole pack of behemoths, takin' another big ol' bite out of Korea del Sur? SciFi Japan has the dirt, including a preliminary sketch from screenwriter Kang Full.
Sounds like the new one, actually a prequel to The Host, will be even more political, and positively crawling with big, fat subterranean beasties. I just hope it isn't your typical big-budget cash-in horror sequel—no director is set for the project so far, and I think the original flick owed a whole lot of its punch to Joon-ho Bong's inventive and masterful direction.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a craving for anchovies.
