Retrophilia: Bearspread

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
The 70s were all about animal prints, and shag carpeting was all the rage. But I'll tell you right off the bat that this is not shag carpeting. No, it's much worse than that. And just think of all the neon pink animals that had to die to make it... except that I can't imagine what animal this could possibly have come from. See the whole thing after the jump!

Phew! At least it's only Polar Bear "Look." That means no pink polar bears had to die to make these bedspreads and pillows. That's a load off my mind, I can tell you. And I love the "hunt no further" in the description. Look at Sears trying to be clever... it's adorable! "Wild look..." They're killing me!
Not so sure about their insistence that it's "a soft accent for traditional, contemporary or mod style decor." Mod I'll give 'em, possibly contemporary, but how in the world does this kind of insanity fit in with a traditional decorating style? At least it's easy to care for. Just a quick shake or brushing and it comes back to life. I just imagine finding "polar bear" hairs all over the bedroom, though. This thing looks like it sheds something fierce! And at nearly $50, that seems pretty pricey for 1971.
Still, is it wrong that I actually kind of want one? Badly?
