Screwing with Freddy

New Line and Platinum Dunes are going to be destroying relaunching A Nightmare On Elm Street, the franchise that put New Line Cinema on the map. Considering New Line has been referred to as "The House That Freddy Built" maybe they'll treat the franchise with a bit of respect.
Considering Nightmare is widely considered one of the best examples of horror in the past three decades (and to this day still gives me the creeps) it is hard to keep an open mind that they'll do something good with it.
if it were up to me I'd do another sequel rather than a remake. But who am I (besides a freddy fan boy)?

Oh God, no. Just... no.
I loved the first one, but none of the sequels could measure up. Except for Wes Craven's New Nightmare, which I thought was a terrific look at the series, and Craven's final word on the subject of Freddy.
Hopefully this will remain as nonexistent as the Friday The 13th remake I keep hearing about...
This is both disturbing and exciting. Disturbing because, like you guys, I'm completely afraid of what direction this could take. On the other hand, as a huge Nightmare fan dating back to the 80s (when I was a kid, I was obsessed with Krueger ... which explains a lot), I have to kind of admit that the series has kind of hit a wall. I'm not sure where they could take it now, without it seeming forced and stale.
We've seen some "decent" re-imaginings, from Texas Chainsaw Massacre to Halloween, and even the Hills Have Eyes. Even if this is like a car wreck you can't avert your eyes from, it'll at least be interesting. Hopefully.
