Leo Helms Akira Adaptation

A live-action, two-part film version of the groundbreaking anime film and manga Akira is in the works stateside, and it's being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.
It's too late for Titanic jokes, right? I can't actually think of one right now, but I feel like if this were 1998 then now would be the appropriate time to make one.
Akira is set in a futuristic Japan, where a biker develops incredibly destructive psionic abilities. This American remake will apparently relocate the story to "New Manhattan," and is set for a summer 2009 release. Harry Knowles asserts that DiCaprio will take on the character Kaneda, and Tetsuo will be played by Joseph Gordon Levitt, who unexpectedly also scored the role of Cobra Commander.

Okay, someone pass me a bucket.
I really gotta puke now.
Oh god, please tell me it's April 1st.
DiCaprio? The 30something?
Kaneda? The 16yr old biker?
..New Manhattan?
This is going to be awful.
UGH! Why does he want to ruin Akira? What did it do to him? -_-
