Indie Darling To Remake Argento

In one of those headscratchin' Hollywood dollar-driven twists of fate, Seventies Slasher Remake duty has fallen to David Gordon Green, who for some reason will be helming the American translation of one of my personal favorites, Dario Argento's Suspiria. You may remember him is that director of the critically lauded George Washington, or you may remember him as the director of... that other movie he made after George Washington that the critics also loved, or you may remember the movie he made after that and the critics liked it only okay but hey it had Jamie Bell in it.
The horror nerds are up in arms! Check it out, they are burning up the comments section at the MTV movie blog!
Look, to anybody who thinks Suspiria is an untouchably perfect film, can we please talk about the world-famous ballet instructor whose pedagogy consists entirely of counting to four (and, Jesus, she can't even get that right), or the line, "They say that names that begin with S... are the names of SNAKES!!" or take your pick of any of a dozen other headache-inducingly stupid ideas in that movie? Yeah, thanks. I'm really not afraid that the immortal legacy of Suspiria will somehow be damaged by this movie, and I love Suspiria.
While I don't think it's going to be better than the original (the original was fantastic), I'm not afraid that it will be a ridiculous piece of trash (the original, let's be honest, was that too). The worst and most likely thing that could happen would be that this remake will be merely okay--something that, love it or hate it, could never be said about a Dario Argento film.

Three words:
The Wicker Man
What a tragic, tragic remake.
I bought Suspiria on DVD a few years ago on a recommendation from a friend. I thought it was unique and somewhat eccentric, but I didn't quite respond to it in the way that many horror fans do. I just didn't quite get its appeal.
like a lot of remakes, this is a stupid, shameful mistake.
