Scott Pilgrim Gets Powerup In The Form Of Michael Cera

scottcera.jpg

The much-anticipated film adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's acclaimed video game-inspired graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim is evidently go for launch, with Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) directing, and Michael Cera playing the title role. O'Malley confirms in his blog, where he also bemoans a somewhat inaccurate Hollywood Reporter story.

...I can "confirm" that Michael Cera is going to play Scott Pilgrim in this movie adaptation.

It is not called "Scott Pilgrim's Little Life", as the whole internet has been saying. Gee, I wonder why they took out "precious", the internet wonders? Maybe because some idiot made an error while filing the story? No, couldn't be. There must be some deeper meaning.

It isn't even called Precious Little Life, but I defer to the film's creators as to when and how they want to make their announcements.

And further down...

Yes, the studio (Universal) is "eyeing a fall start".

Yes, it is based on the entire story arc, not just the first book, and yes we talked a lot about what should happen in the later parts of the story, but at the same time we have already diverged significantly. It is a complimentary story, not an exact copy.

Yes, Edgar Wright is a fine fellow who has included me since the very start (late '04 / early '05).

Michael Cera seemed like an odd choice to play Scott Pilgrim at first, but the more I think about it, the more I really like the idea. Scott may be a superhuman badass, but at heart he's really just an awkward, oversensitive, lovable nerd. Cera, meanwhile, has been somewhat repeatedly typecast into awkward, oversensitive, lovable, nerdy roles...only this time he'll probably get to punch a lot more people. And in my own humble opinion, Michael Cera is a superhuman badass.

So. In summary. Edgar Wright. Michael Cera. Scott Pilgrim. I don't mean to generate a lot of premature, overzealous hype here, but this is going to be the greatest movie ever.
