Retrophilia: For Shame!

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
Yeah, I didn't recognize her until I saw her name in the credits, but that brassy-looking broad on the right there is Noel Neill, most famous for playing Lois Lane in the George Reeves Superman TV series. Don't think that means the movie poster on the other end of the jump has anything to do with heroics of any kind.
Nope, this is classic exploitation, done well before she got anywhere near the Man of Steel... check it out!

Really? The "shame story of our time?" That's really saying something. So basically everyone involved in this picture should be ashamed of starring in it? Because I see Lyle Talbot's name in the credits, and I know he's done much more shameful work for Ed Wood, so "shame story of our time" might be a wee bit debatable here.
And as I mentioned, Lois Lane appeared in this film as well as some others with questionable titles like Mad Youth, Lady of Burlesque and Young Ideas at the beginning of her career. This was way way back in 1944. Do you think exploitation films like these had as much impact on an actors career back then as doing soft core Skinemax and taking your top off does today?
I've never seen this picture, but looking at the poster, I have to wonder who you're supposed to root for. I mean, if the teenage kids are in the police lineup while their parents are off getting drunk and fooling around, how are we supposed to feel sorry for them falling on hard times? I might be on the parents' side. Maybe the kids are just hoodlums, and they've given up and decided to get wasted. Unfortunately, Are These Our Parents? isn't available at Netflix, so I may never know. Somebody needs to get on that!
