Donnie Darko Sequel Has Doubtful Commitment To Sparkle Motion

sdarko.JPG

On the heels of last month's news of a Donnie Darko stage play, which left me very excited, comes news of a film sequel, which has left me incredibly leery.

The film, entitled S. Darko, will center on Donnie's little sister Samantha, who seems to have inherited her brother's penchant for seeing bizarre visions. At this point, Richard Kelly is not involved.

I'm not sure what to expect here, but let's just say I'm not getting my hopes up. We could have done very well without American Psycho 2, thank you, and I'm guessing we could probably do without this.

After all the hype for the first one I ended up being very unimpressed by it. In fact I thought it was at best mediocre.
So I don't have high hopes for a sequel either.

Hell I wouldn't have hope for it WITH Richard Kelly. Did anyone else see that abortion called Southland Tales? It had two AMAZING parts, and the rest was like having your sense of good filmmaking raped.

Eh, I'm doubtful that any of the things I liked about the first one (Patrick Swayzee, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Beth Grant) will be in the second one, so I see no reason to see it.

Meh ... whatever, sequels. It's hard to even be surprised by the absurdity of the film industry anymore, so I'll just accept it and fork over the cash. But if there's no Jakey playing with himself then I'll pass.
