Retrophilia: Um, Thank You?

singerxmassm.jpg

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

It's a quick one for you this week. Are you all done with your Christmas shopping? Judging by this photo, it looks like this lucky hubby got his wife one doozy of a present. I mean, just look how happy she looks. Like she's more in love with the gift she found under the tree than the man who gave it to her.

Whatever could this miracle Christmas present be? Make the jump and find out if it'll go on your shopping list this year!

Yeah. I'm guessing that a Singer sewing machine probably isn't topping anybody's Christmas list this year. But wow, doesn't she just look so overcome by her husband's expression of love? See, because it was 1970, buying your wife a sewing machine was like an expression of your love. And the nicer the sewing machine, the more you loved her. This one looks pretty nice, so I'm guessing he loves his wife a lot.

Or else he just wants her to mend his clothes more efficiently.

Or maybe he just doesn't want to buy her nice, new clothes, and stuffed her stocking with various sewing patterns she could make for herself. Maybe he even threw some thread in for good measure!

And if you look real close at the picture, it seems that in the lower left hand corner, he's included a book on how to sew or something. So that's real sweet of him, too. Because nothing says true love more on Christmas than giving your significant other a present that make them feel like they don't know what they're doing. Well, maybe a present that makes them feel like an indentured servant!

Maybe he only bought it for her because he secretly wants it for himself.

Some people actually like sewing, you know. My mom would LOVE a new sewing machine for Christmas.

Hehe, I'd actually really love one for myself if I didn't just buy one.

But yeah, you know the husband's gonna use to needle setting for "leather" when the wife is out of the house...:)
