Retrophilia: Knitwear If You Dare

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
What a cozy couple. He seems to be nuzzling his true love as if to say, "You're so special and you mean the world to me." Unfortunately, if you make the jump, you'll find out a much more likely not-so-sweet nothing he's probably whispering in her ear!

Judging by what these two are wearing, I think it's much more likely that he's whispering, "I told you I'd wear this hideous thing because you made it for me, but you didn't tell me anyone would be taking pictures!"
The copy says that crocheting is "creative fun" and "gives you a sense of accomplishment," which may be, but that doesn't mean you should crochet up a couple of sweater vests in ugly patterns with yarn colors that shouldn't be combined in those ways.
What's worse is that I've seen family photos from the early seventies, and people really did wear stuff like that! Please let this be a style that died with the age and isn't going to come back around again...

Incidentally, you couldn't know this, but that's probably not even wool, it's most likely acrylic (at least, I've never seen a skein of Red Heart that wasn't acrylic). And that just makes this all worth it.
If it gives you any hope for modern crocheted vests, http://www.flickr.com/photos/55564147@N00/1525068209
Lol! The "Flower" on that lady's sweater is exactly like the coasters my grandma made in the early 70's. I still have them too, except they are pure white.
Ich... So glad I was born as these things died off... I mean God help me if gold silk shirts with red velvet pants ever comes back. I will never forgive my parents for that...
