Retrophilia: Under Thirty... And Color Blind

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
Something's sure caught this little Bicentennial beauty's eye. But what? Judging by her outfit, it'll have to be quite a doozy! Make the jump to see if it is...

That's right. If you like this sport shirt, you're under thirty. You also have no taste in fashion.
Seriously, I don't care if it was 1971. That's no excuse.
You've gotta hand it to this shirt company, though. Coming from the angle that young people don't want to wear their father's stuffy button down shirts, they've developed the Manhattan U-30. Nevermind that it sounds like a submarine. It's a line of shirts specially developed for the tasteless young man. And I absolutely love that they make a point of spelling out the differences in the tailoring, specifically the fact that it has longer collar points. Because in the '70s, unless your shirt could fly away by itself, you just weren't cool.
And it's pretty ballsy to call this shirt "The Patch Job," seeing as how it really does look like it was thrown together from whatever randomly colored scraps they had lying around!
But seriously, what is up with the girl in the background? Why is she dressed for the Fourth of July? It wasn't even 1976. This ad ran in 1971. Getting in on Bicentennial Fever a few years early? Wow, Manhattan really was ahead of its time!

I actually kinda like it. :o
I'm serious.
Oh goodness, the cuffs aren't even the same color. I can get over the patches and different color choices, but the cuffs? Can't there be at least a LITTLE taste?
You are so, so wrong. That shirt is awesome. It just is. You want him to wear some nice, safe, solid-color shirt of conformity?
Fuck the tyranny of "good taste"! It's just a myth that oppresses you! You have nothing to lose but your boring-ass clothes!
I love the Bolex 15mm (8mm?) camera...was he shooting porn?
