America's Next Top Model: "Here's Your Test"
Previously on America's Next Top Model: The model wannabes went to Ellis Island to dress up as immigrants, and Tahlia finally had a boost to her confidence when she did surprisingly well. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. Unfortunately, Sandra and Kortnie sucked ass, and since the judges still saw more potential (for drama) in Sandra, Kortnie was sent home. But not before Celia totally shot herself in the foot by getting up in front of Tyra to interrupt the elimination by ratting out Tahlia's desire to leave the competition. Tyra was all, "That's up to Tahlia to tell me, little miss tattletale," and Celia was shamed back into taking her place. Awesome. Kortnie was still sent packing, but who will go home this week? And will we have another awesomely insane moment to rival Celia's? Make the jump and find out!
Night falls in New York City and the girls go home after judging. Tahlia can't believe Celia would try to stab her in the back like that. Celia interviews that she didn't think it was fair that Kortnie was sent home when Tahlia didn't even want to be there, and she thought Tyra should know how Tahlia felt. Celia always seemed pretty smart to me, so why didn't she think that the producers would tell Tyra everything that goes on anyway. Oh, and Celia doesn't regret what she did, even though she suspects she's going to be sent home this week. Now the house starts talking amongst themselves. Sandra tells Teyona and Tahlia that she overheard Celia and the other girls talking about saying something, but didn't think Celia would actually do it. Sandra thinks it's none of Celia's business, and she should be worried about going home. Tahlia can't wait for Celia to say something to her so she can give her a piece of her mind, and Aminat doesn't understand why she's waiting for Celia to come to her. Aminat is a shit-stirrer. After literally saying she doesn't want to instigate anything, Aminat asks Tahlia for her blessing to go downstairs and totally instigate something. Hee! Teyona follows Aminat down the stairs, and it's Teyona who starts in first on the other side of the house. Allison doesn't understand why she's being lumped in with Celia, and Aminat rails at her for not being the good person she thought she was. Oh, and Aminat, don't complain that Allison's look of surprise is fake that's just the way her eyes are. Aminat and Teyona's attack reminds Allison why she hated high school. Mean girls FTW! Tahlia and Celia are standing next to each other on the stairs watching, and not even getting involved, which is hilarious. Tahlia speaks up finally to declare that she did want to go home, because she doubted her motives, but not anymore. Allison interviews that it sounded a little too "Chicken Soup For The Teenage Soul" for her. Heh. Natalie starts applauding sarcastically, annoyed that as soon as Tahlia starts doing well, she changes her mind and wants to stay. Natalie declares it's a competition, and they're going to try to send her home. Yeah, but it's not exactly that kind of a competition. What are you gonna do, stand on the sidelines of the set making funny faces to distract her? Aminat suddenly realizes that Natalie is on Celia's side, and starts in on her, too. Tahlia even distances herself from angry Aminat on the stairs at this point. Natalie eggs Aminat on until she comes the rest of the way down the stairs to get all up in Natalie's face. Points to Aminat for actually spelling "stupid" correctly, though. Natalie interviews that Aminat just made herself look bad, but I really don't think either of them are coming off very well in this situation.
Later, there is Tyra Mail. Aminat reads: "Cut it out. I don't want to see any more blank faces." Aminat suspects acting, and they all kind of agree. Too soon for that challenge, girls. The Gaymobile takes them to a warehouse somewhere to find Mr. J standing amongst blank-faced mannequins. Jay explains that you have to be more than a clothes hanger, and this challenge is all about the face. He leads the girls inside and introduces them to Beth Stern, who is Howard Stern's wife and also a model. Beth explains that the mirror is your friend, and then she and Mr. J go girl by girl to give them different expressions to do while looking in a mirror. They try to get Allison to do sensual, and it's not good. Allison admits that her eyes are a problem because they're too big and hard to use properly. Teyona tries to do mystery, and locks up her jaw. They love Celia's mystery, and then they also like Tahlia's sensual. She's really feeling much more confident now. Fo does alluring, and must have done well because they don't have much to say. Sandra does mystery, but they get a little scared. Natalie does sensual, and they seem to like it, although it's a little obvious. Now it's time to put the girls to the test. Mr. J tells them they have to be able to give all different kinds of expressions, and moves to one of the large frames covered in sheets behind him. As he pulls the cloth, the girls make shocked faces and we go to commercials.
When we return, we discover that Mr. J has uncovered giant enlargements of photos of Tyra with the face cut out. So basically, the girls will have to stand behind two of them, put their face through the hole and give the expression they think Tyra was giving in the actual picture. You know, I was wondering how they could get more Tyra into the show. But I never would've thought of this! The girls leave the room while Celia starts off. Celia is convinced she's going home after what she did last week, so she has to really bring it. They do a split screen to show the actual photo side-by-side with what Celia is doing, and neither of them match. Beth thinks she's too concerned with her body to focus on her face. Fo and Teyona blow it as well, and then Sandra believes she knows what to do, but fails miserably. Aminat also screws up, as does Allison. Natalie, of course, does great. I don't get it. I find he really bland. London also does well, although I don't think she matched Tyra's expression very well. Tahlia is excited to come out to play, but totally doesn't get it. Oh well. The girls all return in a group to be judged, and ultimately, Natalie is declared the winner. She is awarded 50% more frames than the other girls in their next photo shoot. Beth declares that they're all winners, so clearly she's never seen this show before.
Back at the house, Tyra Mail tells them "You're all looking a little pale. I think you need some color." They immediately latch on to body paint, but Aminat interviews that since their teach was about facial expressions, that's what the shoot should be. Huh. That was a marginally intelligent deduction right there. That night, Tahlia sits down next to Celia, and decides to act like an adult and discuss the situation calmly. She explains that she was totally humiliated, and Celia tries to explain that she just wanted Tyra to know what was going on, and apologizes. Celia is 100% sure she's being sent home, so she wants to know that everyone left behind wants to be here as much or more than she does. Probably not, but what are you gonna do? Hey, McKey is still having her life as a Cover Girl and gets fitted for a runway show. Next time is hair and makeup. Wow. What does that say about her life as a Cover Girl that there's so little going on that they're stretching this one fashion show into three weeks or more?
The girls board the Gaymobile and head to heir photo shoot. Mr. J introduces them to photographer Keith Major and explains that each one of them is going to have a different colored powder splashed across their face, and they have to embody the color. Huh? In hair and makeup, Sutan wants to make sure the girls are all getting along, but nobody can really tell him the truth. Allison comes up first with neon pink powder all over her face, and decides to act all girly. Mr. J thinks she's holding back, but then suddenly it's her last frame. He worries that Allison won't go much further in the competition until she opens up and displays real emotions. Aminat is up next in green, and Jay seems to like it, even if her face looks a little empty to me. Tahlia is confident going in with purple powder blown onto her face and neck, but Mr. J thinks she's blah. He asks what she's thinking about, and Tahlia admits she's trying to pretend like the photographer is her boyfriend she's flirting with. That's where her photos get better, although Jay reminds that you can't bring sexy to every shoot. Teyona is yellow, and she's way too smiley. Mr. J jokes that it looks like a denture cream ad, and that her weakness is that she can't smile. Fo is red, and burns the set up. It's fabulous. London is blue, which seems obvious, but she doesn't take it as sad as i would've thought. Jay seems to like it, though. Natalie comes out, and it's a good thing she had those extra frames, because that's where Mr. J says she actually got better. Sandra is white, and is confident going into it, although Mr. J doesn't see the "angel" mood she's going for. Leaving set, Sandra remains confident, although it's really starting to feel like self-delusion at this point. Celia knows that they're all against her, so she has to be fierce, and somehow really works the grey, much to Mr. J's surprise. As we go to commercials, Celia is feeling a little better that she might have done well enough to save her sorry, tattletale ass.
I really don't know why we always have to watch them read the Tyra Mail about how one of them is about to be eliminated. There has to be another way to segue into the clips of all the girls talking about how worried they are. Sandra remains self-deluded... I mean, confident, but Celia wants to make sure she's wearing just the right outfit so if she goes, she can go out twirling. And with that, we head to judging, where Tyra's rule for owning your inner fierceness this week is "you need to paint on your game face and show the industry your true colors." Tyra and the little girl she's holding have a stripe of yellow paint running down the center of their faces. I love how Tyra's photo is always only tangentially connected to the girls' photo shoot. Like Tyra was going to let anyone blow cheap colored powder all over her face... as if! The girls line up, and Tyra actually looks really pretty this week. Her hair and makeup are fabulous, and I even kind of like her outfit. She introduces the judges, and the guest this week is their photographer, Keith Major. Tyra reveals that she's worked with Keith a lot, mostly recently for the cover of Ebony Magazine. Or as Tyra likes to put it: "He shot the cover of me for Ebony Magazine." Not that he shot her for the cover, he shot the cover of her. Awesome.
First up is Aminat, and Tyra reminds us how they were supposed to embody a certain color. They like her version of green, and Tyra is jealous of her lips. Next is Natalie, who didn't quite do that well with orange. It's all straight-on, and there are no angles to her face, so Tyra instructs her to figure out how not to let the light wash out her face. She does look more alien than Teyona in this picture. Tahlia steps forward, and while Tyra says her clothes are an improvement, she's still got her bangs pulled back atop her head, and instructs her to take that nasty shit out of there. Tahlia explains that she got into the habit in volleyball to keep her bangs out of her eyes, and Tyra is appalled because modeling is totally different. Bangs are OK! Tahlia's picture? Oh, it's actually quite good again. She's really got something in her eyes. Keith Major reveals that he liked that he had to chase after Tahlia as opposed to the other girls who needed more direction. Nigel asks Tahlia how she felt last week, and she admits that she was humiliated, although while she doubted herself in the beginning, she's starting to see now what they saw in her from the start. Good speech! I bet she practiced that.
Celia comes forward in her cropped black leather jacket and flouncy gold tulle skirt, and they all love her outfit. As always. They really like her photo, and Keith says he enjoyed shooting her. Next is Teyona, and while I think it's kind of boring, the judges all love her yellow photo. Tyra suddenly declares that yellow is all about hope and optimism, and says that's what she sees. Then she jokes that maybe the Obamas will hang this in their kitchen, and I feel like Tyra has lost me a little bit. London steps out and they don't think she looks emotional enough in her shot. Paulina points out that this is the same look as last week's photo, and Tyra suspects that is her strongest look. Then it's time for Allison, and it's just a straight-on shot of wide-eyed Allison staring blankly into the camera. They kind of like the photo, but Nigel tells her to vary her expressions because they keep saying the same thing from her, even if it is good. Sandra's shot is pretty awful, and Tyra reveals that her profiles were better, but Nigel complained about that last week, so she picked a straight-on shot. Tyra explains to Sandra that she had beautiful profiles, but if she'd chosen one of those, the panel would've jumped all over her for doing the same thing again. So she picked this one, which unfortunately sucked. Too bad, so sad! Last up is Fo, who is completely fierce in red. They love it. Time for deliberations, but first, let's check out another Cover Girl in Action! It's Whitney, who won a couple cycles ago, and was the first plus-sized model to do so. She's been working. Just like all the others. Oh, and she's apparently the face of Fashion Bug's right-size jeans. Really? I didn't know Fashion Bug still existed! Does Orange Julius?
Time to decide who goes home. Aminat was good. Natalie was pretty, but not a great picture. Tahlia had great eye contact, even though in person, she's a drip. Tyra compares her to the Mona Lisa. They love Celia's style, but not that she's a tattletale. Nigel can't even look at her. Teyona is photogenic and appealing. London's photo is unattractive and she looks dead. Allison looks unique, but Tyra loves her shot. Sandra was a terrible disappointment when she stepped out of her profile. Fo rocked it out, and Tyra is pleased she was smiling with her eyes. Yay! Smiling with the eyes! I've been waiting for that one!
The girls return and Tyra stands before them to announce the winner with the best photo. And naturally, it's Fo. I mean, who else was it gonna be? Next up are Teyona, Tahlia, Aminat, Allison, Natalie, and London. This puts Sandra and Celia in the bottom two. No surprise there. Sandra's straight-on face turned out to be ugly, and Celia's personality has turned out to be ugly, too. So who goes home? The girl who can only do profiles? Or the girl who can't be trusted in the industry not to throw one of Tyra's girls under the bus? Naturally, it's Sandra. Tyra asks if Celia has learned her lesson, and Celia tearfully says she has. Tyra warns Celia not to mess with another girl's money, and tells her that her photo saved her. Tyra tells Sandra to practice looking good from the front as well as the side, and sends her on her way. Awesomely, as Sandra packs, she remains deluded. "I'm pissed off," she declares. "I'm mad. Ugh! I do not deserve to go home. I'm the best out of all the other girls, so they're crazy to send me home. You know? Because I have so much potential. I have personality and I look like a model." She threatens to continue modeling forever, and then we're through with her. Next week it's time to learn about acting with Paulina, who appears quite frustrated with their lack of skills. Oh, and a special guest! Who could it be?! It's freakin' Clay Aiken, if you can believe that. Because when you think about acting, you think of him. Right. Tune in next week to see how disastrous it is!

Clay Aiken had to be one of the most pointless guest judges to date. So yeah, he may have come in second on American Idol, and yes he's been in musicals and plays, but its not like he was teaching the girls how to sing.
Paulina also mentioned that he's sold the most albums or whatever for a single artist with his debut CD... which I find odd, since I have never met someone who's claimed to be a fan of Clay Aiken.
