Retrophilia: Magic Chef

magicchefsm.jpg

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

What a quaint little scene we've got here with a father sitting down to the breakfast that mom no doubt cooked. Of course, she's too busy dealing with the milkman to actually eat the fruits of her labors. Good thing she's got an easy way to reheat the leftovers for later when Dad's at work and the kids are at school and she's got some free time to feed herself! See how after the jump!

Would you look at the size of that thing? Everything in the seventies was huge. Cars, shirt collars, ties, and even microwave ovens! See, now looking at one of those monstrosities, I can totally believe people might have been worried about radiation. It looks scary!

Can someone explain what a "Magitrol Defroster" is supposed to be? Magic... um, trolling? I got nothing. What the heck is the "trol" supposed to mean? Also, I doubt that any amount of "microwave energy" is going to make your frozen breakfast rolls taste like anything resembling freshly baked rolls. Have you ever microwaved any kind of bread product? You've got a window of about 30 seconds before that warm, soft, delicious roll turns into a brick you could use as a murder weapon.

And it's a good thing they come in all kinds of fashion colors so you can match your other appliances. Because that thing is gonna be huge. No popping it on top of the fridge or under the counter for this microwave! So it'd better look as nice as possible!

Before I go, I would like to draw special attention to the clothes worn by our family of the future here. I am totally digging the dad's red suit with pink shirt and tie, but I swear to God I had pants like that boy's, and I know for a fact my baby sister had that green dress! Ah, the seventies... so ugly!

"Magitrol" as in "magi(c cont)rol", where we'd say "automagically" today, no doubt.

Magic control! THANK you! I don't know why I couldn't get that! Seriously, it was driving me crazy. I knew it had to stand for SOMETHING... but what?!?!
