Retrophilia: Psycho-delica

psychedelicsm.jpg

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

You might be looking at this image to the right and wondering what the hell you're looking at. Totally understandable. I would be, too. Unfortunately, I can't promise that it will make any more sense to you after you make the jump... but go ahead and try!

See what I mean? It's just one of four psychedelic seventies posters. All of which can be yours for the low, low price of one dollar! And they'll even throw in a free gift of 18 mini-poster stamps, which are these, plus other images that you can use to "brighten up books and letters... everywhere." Because these things are all printed in full color on heavy, glossy paper with "Day-Glo" inks that "glisten in day light... are vibrant under black light."

Not that you'd know it from the ad because Mirobar Sales Corp was too cheap to spring for a full color advertisement, opting to only pay enough for a little bit of red in the type along the top. Nice. So maybe not the best ad for psychedelic "Day-Glo" artwork.

Also, for future reference (not like the company is still in business, but still...), 14"x 22" isn't exactly big, and I would like to know exactly who the "famous artists" are who created these magnificent works of art. I do love that the titles were included, even if the only one I'm pretty sure I can identify is "The Square." Oh, and is the fact that these posters are sold elsewhere for 2 to 3 times this special low price really a selling point? Because that's only what, fifty cents? I mean, if you're getting four posters for a buck (not including the free stamps), that's only a quarter apiece. So at best, the poster would be 75 cents. Wow. What a great deal this is! Let me jump right on it!

Especially since, as the ad makes an effort to point out (shouting in all caps), "This offer MAY NOT BE REPEATED THIS YEAR!"

Of course, in all fairness, I kind of have to admit that if I had one of these posters now, I would totally hang it on my wall. They're awesome! (Or at least, I assume they are when they're in color...)

Dear MIROBAR SALES CORP Dept 10922,

Enclosed you will find that I am returning your 4 "Fantastic Posters" that I ordered through your ad in Useless Crap magazine. I hung them on my wall, then proceeded to take two hits of acid and the "Day-Glo" colors began to run together and open a portal to a parallel dimension. As I can't have inter-dimensional beings running roughshod through my bedroom, I would like to return them for the full purchase price of one whole dollar. It was my understanding that my satisfaction was guaranteed.

Also, I am keeping the "MINI-POSTER STAMPS" on gum paper as the glue on the back gets me higher than the acid I took.

Sincerely,
Greyrobe
