retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
Everyone knows that handsome devil to the right there. It's James Bond himself, Sean Connery, back in the sixties, when he was still sexy. But what could he be selling during the 1966 holiday season? Make the jump and find out! (It's not anything shocking, really... I promise!)
I love that back in the sixties, you could cross-promote a blockbuster action movie with a liquor. I'm gonna have to go back and watch You Only Live Twice again to see if Jim Beam is prominently featured in any scenes. And hopefully if it is, Mr. Connery manages to look a little more enthusiastic than he does in this photo! Then again, I guess that blasé attitude is part of his charm...
But you can tell that they were going for class with this ad because nowhere in the copy does it say "Beam... Jim Beam."
