Retrophilia: The Gift That Keeps On Giving

easybakesm.jpg

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

Kids can be super hard to shop for at Christmastime. What kinds of toys do they like? Are you buying them a doll they already have? Do they want whatever the hot new trendy toy is that you can't find in stores anywhere? It's enough to make you just give up and buy them something useful. Like socks. Or what you'll find after the jump...

That's right, you've gotta start somewhere. I mean, every little girl grows up to become a housewife, right? So she's gotta learn to cook at some point. Why not with an Easy-Bake Oven? It's almost like the real thing!

Actually, you'd think that in 1973, the ERA would be all over this. Women's rights and all that... Then again, if you look past the awkward hairstyle, there's a creepy glint in this Child of the Damned... what's actually in that cake, little girl?

Suddenly I'm not hungry anymore...

Hey check this out! In 2009 little girls totally get to play with hammers and guns and shit. The EasyBake is still totally off-limits to little boys, though...

I so wanted an Easy Bake oven when I was a little boy. My parents tried to placate me with a Snoopy Snow Cone Machine. It just wasn't the same.

I had the boy version of the easy bake oven in which you made little bug/monster shaped edible things.

That thing was awesome.
