Retrophilia: Eighties Style

retrophilia (ret troh FEE lee uh) n. 1 An intense attraction for things of the past. 2 a weekly series for popsucker wherin the irrepressible Wootini reveals the horrors of the past to the present to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
Art aficionados might recognize the painterly style of renowned fantasy artist Boris in this illustration of a barbarian's maiden. However, she's not clinging to Conan The Barbarian. No, this chick is grabbing hold of a slightly different kind of eighties hero. Make the jump for the full weirdness!

That's right, it's famous eighties clothing boutique Chess King! (Which went out of business in 1995, according to the occasionally accurate Wikipedia) I have to admit that I did shop at my local mall's Chess King once in a while, but it was the eighties, so that kind of clothing was in style! I swear!
Of course, it still doesn't make this right in any way. Why does the barbarian chick have eighties Aqua Net high hair? And why is his pet dragon's tongue turning into his headphones? (Which I love being accurately presented as the big foam-covered earpieces) And while I will cop to owning a couple shirts similar to that one (it was the eighties it was okay, remember!) and I might actually still wear a tank top like that... but I promise I never once tied a leopard-print bandanna around my waist like a belt! Promise!
