Furries, fans of pocket bears, or just anyone who's always wanted to strap a hairy little man to your body, check out Think Geek's Chewbacca backpack.
His arms wrap around you to let you know he's secure - even his legs will secure around your abdomen, for some extra cuddly fun. Who needs real friends when you have a Chewie on your back? ... [T]here can be no bigger thrill than asking someone if they want to pet your Wookiee. Trust us - it'll get you smiles every time.
Smiles and pepper spray in your eyes. Who needs real friends, indeed. But that's just the cynical (or sane) part of my brain talking, feel free to pick one up and use it to carry around all your C-3PO parts.
If you're less Han and more Luke, the bag is also available in a Yoda version, which looks eerily like Wallace Shawn or Mickey Rooney. I'm sure that someone's been dreaming about that three-way for years.

If February is still too far away, fans of ABCs LOST take heart - the webisodes start today! Entitled LOST: Missing Pieces, these were long planned for a mobile phone platform, but the powers-that-be decided to just release the series to the web and let everyone get a peek.
Lost: Missing Pieces are 13 two- to three-minute stories of compelling, new, never-before-seen moments from the hit television show LOST. These newly-created scenes (not deleted scenes from previous episodes) reveal answers and new details about your favorite characters. For each story, we leave it up to the fans to figure out where these pieces fit into the overall mythology. The new stories are from the same creative team responsible for the series and feature the show's main actors in stories that have all the compelling values that make LOST one of the most popular dramas on television around the world.
Anyone who's seen The Office's or Battlestar Galactica's webisodes know that the medium is a pretty mixed bag - I'm just saying don't expect chills running down your spine. Still, it's great that they actually use the real characters and actors, and not just "Random plane crash victim #14 who you've never seen because he was always out picking fruit or something during important scenes." The first episode, The Watch, is up right now and features Jack (Matthew Fox) and his father on a beach, being all WASPy. Which beach? You'll have to watch to find out.

A few different sources are reporting and speculating on new additions to the cast of J.J. Abram's upcoming Star Trek film, and all are of the feminine persuasion.
Most officially (and most bizarrely), Variety is reporting that Winona Rider has joined the cast as the mother of Spock, played by Zachary Quinto. Since the actors are only 6 years apart in age, it's not clear whether she'll appear in flashbacks or during the main plot of the film. In current Star Trek canon, Spock's mother was human, so there shouldn't be any of that funny alien aging business to deal with. I know that actresses have trouble getting parts after 35, but she's not looking that haggard.
Next, Rachel Nichols, who worked with Abrams for like, five minutes during the last season of Alias, announced to the Toronto Sun that she's got a good shot at a role in the film, but nothing's set in stone.
[Y]es, there's a good chance you'll see my shining face in the new Star Trek ... There's a lot of buzz about it, but honestly, I don't even know the name of my character.
Lastly, IESB looked over pictures from the set of the film and saw someone that looked suspiciously like Jennifer Morrison from House. And sure, the picture looks like her, but then so does half of Hollywood. I mean, no offense, but her look just isn't that unique.
So any of these gals make you more likely to stand in line right now? Or maybe you're completely offended and ready to stage a boycott. I'm always glad to see Winona in something high profile, but I have to say I'm pretty squicked thinking about her pushing Sylar from her babyhole. Those eyebrows must have tickled like crazy!

Wow, finally some good television news in the wake of all this strike related sadness. At last night's Evening with Dexter, an event which included a preview screening of this Sunday's episode and a chat with the show's cast and crew, Showtime Networks President Robert Greenblatt was asked point blank about whether or not we should expect a third season of the show. His response?
Yes!
Now, that's not a huge surprise, seeing as it's pretty much Showtime's signature show (along with Weeds), and has done pretty well in the ratings, in addition to being a critical success. Still, it's always good to know!
Dexter's been one of my favorite shows since day one. The location, the direction, the voice-overs all remind me of my favorite pulp novels. It might be gay sacrilege, but I couldn't stand Michael C. Hall on Six Feet Under: As Dexter he's possibly my favorite actor on television right now. The second season is airing now on Showtime, and if you're curious, you can pick the first season up from Amazon through our store.

AfterElton.com is looking to name the top 25 most popular gay and bisexual television characters, and you can help. Based on reader submissions, they've set up a pretty comprehensive poll where you can choose up to 10 names you think deserve to be in the great gay pantheon. Xandir from Drawn Together? He's on there. Gay Larry from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? He's there too. Nathanial Baltimore from Saul of the Molemen? He's there, and considering maybe four people in the world watched the show, that's kind of impressive.
The list skews a little new, hence the absence of characters like Bewitched's Uncle Arthur and the presence of that brand new gay couple on Desperate Housewives, who so far have only had a chance to be kind of catty and obvious. The last option lets you write in a candidate, so if you really feel someone important has been left off, feel free to take advantage of that. Sadly, ladies are not the purview of AfterElton.com, so keep an eye out to see if their sister site AfterEllen.com sets up a similar poll for bisexual women and lesbians on television.
So who makes your list? I'll have to think about mine a little bit, but one of the my top choices will definitely be bisexual Tim Bayless from Homicide: Life in the Street. He was one of the first queer guys I saw on TV at a time when I knew that I was gay, but didn't know exactly what that meant. Also Stimpy, from Ren and Stimpy, because he's a cat.

Fans of the Playstation 2 RPG Persona 3 might be tickled to learn that an anime follow up to the game's plot is underway, set to air this coming January in Japan. The show, called Persona -trinity soul- will be set 10 years after the events of the game, and will feature three brothers in a city where the dead rise and somehow get turned inside out. Because the only thing scarier than a zombie is a zombie that looks like Slim Goodbody.
The show's staff includes Atlus character designer Shigenori Soejima, as well as creators from shows such as Blood +, Darker than BLACK, and Read Or Die. For now, the series has only been announced for Japan, but with the game's vocal worldwide fanbase there should be a good shot of the show getting distributed in other countries. The anime adaptation Devil May Cry aired in Japan earlier this year and the first four episodes of the American version will be included in the collector's edition of that game. While I wouldn't expect such fanfare for the Persona anime, keep your fingers crossed and it might pay off. At the very least it's nice to see an anime version of a game that western audiences might be familiar with, instead of the endless harem and hentei PC games getting the small screen treatment.

Jack Bauer has survived threats from terrorists, the Chinese government, Christmas trees, but when faced with a group of pasty nerds holding picket signs, he seems to have met his match.
The Fox Network has announced some schedule changes in the wake of the writer's strike, and most notable is the complete absence of 24 from the schedule. Says the network:
The seventh season premiere of 24 is being postponed to ensure that Day 7 can air uninterrupted, in its entirety.
Although the first three seasons of the show were spread throughout the year, since the fourth "day", 24 has started in January and run without repeats until May each year. Without enough scripts in the can to make it a full 24 episodes, it seems that the producers and the network don't want to risk spoiling a good thing.
Instead, Prison Break will go off the air after this Monday's episode and return on January 14th, paired with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. It's not clear just how many episodes we'll get of either, but by then many shows will have exhausted their supply of scripts so people may be starved for anything new.
The network also laid down dates for American Idol (January 15) and a whole slew of midseason replacements and reality shows. Check the link below for more details.
Personally, I'm looking forward to using this strike to better myself by checking books out of my local library, volunteering at the local animal shelter, and maybe taking a class at a community college -- bwah ha ha, no, no -- I tried to keep a straight face. I'll probably just be playing all the video games I don't have time for from this month, or maybe just sitting in front of the dark TV screen, waiting for all my friends to come back to me.
