Clip OF The Week: 1980 World Disco Dance Finals

It was 1980 and disco was dead, but not in the UK! This is the second in a series of videos posted by spottydog4472 on YouTube of the Disco Dance World Championships, but unfortunately some of them didn't allow embedding. But, this one was so I present it here for your horror and amusement. Gotta love that lighted floor!

Clip of the Week: Drag Queen Wonder Woman Showcase

What is it about Wonder Woman and drag queens? They just love her. Is it the boots? The golden lariat? or is it that she's an Amazon and in many ways just kind of mannish? Anyway...

We posted this clip on our comics blog a while back and I have been meaning to post it for Clip of the Week for a while. While I was searching for the link on YouTube I found a bunch of other drag Wonder Woman clips. Some are good, some are terrible, but they all pay tribute to that protector of the red, white and blue. I have included them after the jump as a special additional treat.

For those of you watching this clip for the first time, this is a mind boggling performance by drag artist Tandi Iman Dupree. Lady Dupree is sadly no longer with us, but she leaves a lasting impression. Especially on our crotches...

Ukulele Thursday: Tom Cruise Crazy

While I'm out on the long highway, making my way towards San Francisco, I've bene taking the opportunity to spend some time with my uke while Toots drives and it reminded me that I didn't want to miss Ukulele Thursdays. This weeks clip proves that the ukulele doesn't only have to play olde tyme songs. YouTube poster sweetafton23 has quite a few videos up of herself playing the noble little instrument and she is absolutely amazing. This clip in particular is one of my favorites as she performs a terriffic ukulele version of Jonathan Coulton's Tom Cruise Crazy. Sweetafton23, we here at PopSucker are your humble ukulele servants. You rock!

Nichelle Nichols In Truck Turner (NSFW Audio)

You probably know her best as the glamorous Lt. Uhura on Star Trek, but Nichelle Nichols has done tons of other work including this amazing 70's blaxploitation flick, Truck Turner. Starring Issac Hayes, Truck Turner featured La Nichols as a foul mouthed female pimp. I call her a pimp and not a Madame because this gal is no lady. Amazing dialog and a stellar performance from Nichols.

The visual is totally clean, but if you are watching this at work, you'll want to put headphones on. You'll never look at Lt. Uhura the same way again!

Exploitation Fridays: Foxy Brown Lesbian Bar Brawl

I'm a huge fan of Pam Grier and having just finished watching Coffy for the umpteenth time, I was reminded of the amazing lesbian bar fight scene from Foxy Brown. The director Jack Hill, was great at these girl fights and they seem to show up in almost all of his films. Of course it's not as good as the call girl cat fight in Coffy, but it's definitely a close second.

Massive Auction Of Hollywood Memorabilia On eBay

freddyglove.jpg

Profiles in History, a company that specializes in auctioning off prime Hollywood memorabilia will be holding their 30th auction on Dec. 13-14 on eBay. The number of auction items is an astounding coming in at over 1200 items including autographed photos, original scripts, costumes and props. Some of the key pieces are such memorable items as a screen used full-scale model T-800 Endoskeleton from Terminator 2: Judgment Day ($80,000-$100,000), Jean-Luc Picard's "Enterprise E" command chair from the Star Trek film ($45,000-$60,000), a screen-used, full-scale T-Rex head from Jurassic Park ($60,000-$80,000) and Julie Andrew's signature gabardine coat from Mary Poppins ($60,000-$80,000).

OFc ourse most of us could only dream of owning some of these things as the money they go for is astronomical, but if you are a movie buff, perusing Profiles in History's website is a lot of fun. You can make the jump for a general listing of the pieces that are up for grabs, but if you'd like amore detailed list with pictures, check out the auction website.

Ukulele Thursday: You Belong To Me

Hello and welcome to a new feature here on PopSucker, Ukulele Thursdays. Amongst my many obsessions, the ukulele is probably one of the biggest. I have quite a collection of them and at one time I even had a very large collection of original uke sheet music from the 20's - 60's. Unfortunately, Hurricane Katrina relieved me of those but at least my instruments still remain.

So, to feed my obsession (and hopefully create one for you) I will be presenting a weekly video or article dedicated to the noble little four stringed instrument. This week's offering is one of my favorite clips from uke virtuoso Janet Klein. Not only is You Belong to Me a great classic song (you might remember it from Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters' version in The Jerk), but the treatment done to make it look olde tyme is absolutely delightful. And the best part is, Janet even gives you a little lesson on how to play the song. Enjoy!

Gay On The Range: A Gallery Of Gay Pulp Covers From The 50's and 60's

xbottomsup.jpg

One year for Christmas I received a small stack of old pulp novels form the 50's and 60's from my friends Dave and Carolyn. They were all gay themed and the covers were hilarious. It's interesting to read what were no doubt novels sold in brown paper bags and read in the privacy of a locked bedroom. What was even more interesting than the stories themselves however were the book's covers. They were nothing short of amazing and in most case, downright hilarious. I loved them, but my search for more always ended in dissapointment as these boks in many cases were very expensive.

Reader Freezair SilverEye dropped this nugget of awesomeness in my inbox last night and I was thrilled when I saw what it was. A fellow named Ryan Richardson has not one but TWO sites dedicated to these great pieces of historic gay art. The first site Gay on the Range contains a gallery of eighty seven great covers from these gay themed pulp novels while its sister site Strange Sisters, does the same for the lesbian set of these books. Really Great stuff and so worth the time to peruse.
